THE MOTOR CITY TEAM

Our dedicated team of Motor City Grease Monkeys has almost 40 years of combined professional restoration experience. The team is passionate about American made classic cars from the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s and our goal is to keep these classic pieces of art on the road. We look forward to taking care of yours. We know restoration projects can be long and emotional journeys and in our experience, communication throughout the process can sometimes be lacking. Not at Motor City Classics, we don’t like surprises and we don’t want our customers to be surprised! We do everything in our power to communicate with you every step of the way. Jason Barkhurst

Jason has been restoring classic cars for over 20 years professionally after serving our country as an F-18 jet mechanic in the US Marine Corps. He graduated from auto tech school in Dayton, OH and then spent time in the dealerships as an A-Tech where he continued to build his experience and obtained his numerous automotive certifications. He then started with Steve’s Classic Cars and became the shop foreman at Welby’s Classics. He’s a certified ASE Master Mechanic, a master welder and fabricator, certified in automotive body & paint and an all around great dude! As co-owner of Motor City Classics he leads our team of Motor City Monkeys to keep your classic on the road and bring your vision to life!

Joe Schowalter

Joe, affectionately referred to as the Office Monkey, is responsible for all aspects of running the business and keeping our customers in the know. Also, a former US Marine, Joe was a Signals Intelligence Officer and just retired from Johnson & Johnson after 26 years in healthcare on both the clinical and business side. His passion for classic cars started in 1985 when he and his brothers led by their Dad restored a 1968 Ford Mustang, only 17 years old at the time. He’s dangerous with a wrench and a welder, but his primary tools are his MacBook Pro and Your Garage.

Brent Garringer

Brent is head of the electrical department here at Motor City Classics. He’s been restoring the classics professionally for almost 15 years and is a jack of all trades, but loves his wiring jobs! Before getting into classic cars, he worked at several dealerships and small specialty shops as an A-Tech and is a Master Certified ASE mechanic. He’s also the proud father of the shop dog, Rouge! (See below)

Cody McGuire

Dakota (Cody) McGuire is finishing up his formal schooling as an automotive tech and as the newest Motor City Grease Monkey, he’s been a great addition to the team! He does get a lot of the dirty work, but he does everything with great pride and passion and with a smile on his face… He cut his teeth on the shop truck (pictured above in the team photo) and as it turns out, the guy can run beautiful custom brake and fuel lines! He’s building his skill sets and soaking it all in from Jason and Brent. Not to mention, his mullet rocks!!!

Walt Meyer

Although Walt is a contractor who only works part time when he wants to, he’s a full time good guy! He’s currently finishing up a long term restoration project for his daughter, a 1967 Ford Mustang. He’s a retired finish carpenter whose attention to detail is second to none. He’s been a classic car enthusiast for many many years and currently sports a Chevy El Camino and is getting ready to start another project on a 1963 Ford Galaxy.

Rogue (The Shop Dog)

Rogue is a fixture at Motor City Classics. She loves all the delivery drivers (at least the one’s who bring her treats). Just be a little careful. She’s getting up there in age and her eyes are starting to play tricks on her. If you put your fingers in front of her, she might nip at them because thinks they’re a treat.
